Canon LBP2900B remains one of the most popular and reliable black-and-white laser printers in homes and small offices. Despite its age, it is beloved for its durability, low running costs, and crisp text quality. However, a recurring nightmare for users is installing or reinstalling the printer driver , especially after a Windows update, switching to a new computer, or upgrading from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Go to Canon’s support website. Download the “Canon LBP2900B CAPT Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit)” – even if labeled as beta or legacy.
Download “Canon Generic Plus PCL6 Printer Driver” from Canon’s website (search for “Generic PCL6”). Step 2: Extract and run Setup.exe as administrator. Step 3: During installation, select “Network” then “Local” workaround. Choose LPT1 as the port (we will change it later). Step 4: Complete the installation. A printer named “Canon Generic Plus PCL6” will appear. Step 5: Right-click that printer → Printer properties → Ports tab. Step 6: Check “USB001” (or the USB port your LBP2900B is using) → Apply → Print a test page.
Right-click the downloaded .exe or .zip file → Extract to a folder (e.g., C:\LBP2900B_Driver ). Do not run the installer yet. install canon lbp2900b printer driver new
