The peace would be fragile (the Docklands bombing in 1996 proved that), but the ceasefire of 1994 changed the island of Ireland forever. It allowed for the economic boom of the Celtic Tiger. It allowed parents to stop flinching at the sound of a van backfiring. The British monarchy had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year.
